About Us
God Loves Kids is a Christian ministry that builds relationships between American Christians and formerly impoverished children in India and Africa. Our goal is to provide a way for Christians to act on Jesus' principle from Matthew 25:40
"Whenever you did it for any of my people, no matter how unimportant they seemed, you did it for me."
In 1973, Lovie Phillips and her husband, Rev. H. Syvelle Phillips, were invited to speak at a church in India. Seeing the extreme poverty of the street children of Calcutta made them want to give something to these children. They were warned by their hosts not to give money or candy because the children would mob the car and possibly attack and rob them. They asked their host how they could help these children. Their host showed them their church school and orphanage where several street children lives had been transformed. Lovie Phillips, once home, began asking anyone and everyone to give a small amount each month so a dozen more children could get off the street and into the church school, get healthy meals, and have a safe and comfortable place to sleep. Out of this simple start, God Loves Kids began its present ministry to 2,000+ children in India and East Africa, and their sponsors in the US.
